The double DVD set will be marketed by Rudraa
with the FTII earning royalties from the sales.
In fact, according to Mr. Tripurari Sharan,
Director FTII, The Master Strokes DVD will be
the first edition of a series of similar endeavours
- bringing out one DVD every two months from
now on so that all the best Diploma films of
FTII can be viewed.
The Master Strokes project began when Rudraa
launched their ‘Thinking Man’ series
– creating an outlet for Award Winning
Documentaries, Short Films and Experimental
Films for the common man. The series was launched
with Arun Khopkar’s (Direction, 1974)
National Award Winning Narayan Gangaram
Surve and the FTII Films were to be part
of this series. However Rudraa felt these films
were truly unique and with FTII’s help
decided to come up with this double DVD set.
In fact according to Rudraa, it was Arun Khopkar
only who first suggested a project of this sort.
The films have been curated by the Director,
FTII. The criterion for the selection as mentioned
above was to have a representation of the best
Diploma Films made at the FTII over the years.
Finally 10 B&W and 10 Colour Films were
selected from the huge collection at the Institute.
Some of the more recent films in the collection
include Jam Invalid (1998), Let’s
Talk a While (1998) and Chaitra (2000).
The transfers have been done at the FTII under
the coordination of Mr. Chandrashekar Joshi.
The two DVD set has been priced at Rs 400 making
it truly Value-for-Money. A final date for the
release in June is yet to be set.
